Beginner Shibari for Curious Writers

  • Underdog Bookstore 312 South Myrtle Avenue Monrovia, California, 91016 United States (map)

You don't need to tie a single knot to write a scene that reads like you know what you're doing, but it helps to know what actually happens in the room.

This is a beginner-friendly rope class built for writers who want their kink scenes to feel real, and for people who are curious about rope but don't know where to start. We'll cover the fundamentals: rope safety, communication and negotiation, basic ties you can practice solo, and the emotional texture of a scene.

There will be a self-tie practice portion so you can get rope in your hands and feel the mechanics for yourself, no partner required. With a bonus historical portion!

Come as a writer looking for research. Come if you're just curious for sexy reasons, and looking for a low-pressure first step. Come alone. Bring your curiosity.

What to bring: comfortable clothes you can move in, a notebook if you're the type, and any questions you've been sitting on. Bring ropes if you have them, but we have plenty to share.
